Yes, a trial version of Scaler 3 is available via Free Trials within your Scaler Music account. The trial version is fully functional for 14 days and allows you to explore Scaler 3’s features before purchasing the full version.

To purchase multiple copies you are required to create a new account with a unique email address due to our licensing system. We can offer multi-seat licensing or additional authorisations. Please contact us for more information or see Scaler 3 FAQ.

Scaler Music is based in Australia, and as a non-EU business, we’re required to collect VAT on applicable purchases and remit it to the relevant EU authorities. Unfortunately, because we’re not an EU-registered business, we’re unable to validate VAT numbers or offer VAT-exempt purchases at checkout.

The VAT charged on your purchase can be claimed back at your end, depending on your local VAT rules. We appreciate your understanding.

You can create a Scaler Music account by via the Create an Account page. If you purchased Scaler 3 via Plugin Boutique after its release on March 25, 2025, you’ll be invited to create an account at scalermusic.com (if you haven’t already) to redeem your license.

You can change the email associated with your Scaler Music account via the ‘Account Details’ page within your Scaler Music account, accessed via your account dashboard. Note that this may not change the email address associated with your Scaler Music product licenses in the case of Scaler EQ, DC Snares and Carbon Electra.

We agree it’d be great to have everything in one place, but it’s currently not possible to transfer licenses from Plugin Boutique to Scaler Music accounts. Licenses remain tied to the platform where they were purchased.

The activation process for Scaler 3 does require an active internet connection, so please check your connection and if necessary disable and ad blocking or firewall software that may be interfering. Note that an internet connection is only required during the initial activation and Scaler 3 will operate offline once this is complete.

If you continue to see an error message, try the following steps and reboot your computer and try the activation again. If the issue persists please submit a support ticket via your Scaler Music account page.

• Try activating the standalone version instead of the plugin
• Connect to a different network, and try again
• Connect to your mobile network, and try again
• Connect with a VPN and try again
• Momentarily turn off your virus-scanner, and try again.

If you purchased Scaler 3, or a Scaler 3 upgrade from Plugin Boutique you will have received a redeem code that you can redeem here at Scaler Music. As part of the redeem process you will be required to create an account at Scaler Music or login to your existing account. Please note your email address you used to create an account here at Scaler Music does not need to be the same email you use at Plugin Boutique nor for your Scaler 2 licence.

• Delete the shared user files: /Users/Shared/Scaler Music/Scaler 3
• Reinstall.

Tip: The Library folder is hidden by default. To access it, open Finder, click Go in the menu bar, and hold the Option (⌥) key to reveal Library.

Windows – Clean Install:

• Delete the standalone state file: C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\Scaler 3.settings
• Delete the personalized files: C:\ProgramData\Scaler Music\Scaler 3

Tip: The AppData folder is hidden by default. To access it, you can either:

• Type %AppData% in the File Explorer address bar and press Enter to go directly to the Roaming folder
• Or navigate to C:\Users[USERNAME] and make sure “Hidden items” is checked in the View tab

This resolves most issues for our users. For any unexpected behaviour it is best to post over at our community forum.scalermusic.com

1. Check the plugin vendor name (if your DAW lists plugins by vendor)::
   Some users expect to see Scaler 3 listed under the vendor Plugin Boutique, but it actually appears under Scaler Music in your DAW’s plugin list.
2. Rescan your plugins:
   If you still don’t see it, your DAW might not have scanned it yet. Try the following steps (these apply broadly to most DAWs):
   – Close your DAW.
   – Make sure Scaler 3 is installed to the correct plugin folder (e.g., VST3, AU, or AAX depending on your DAW and OS)
   – Reopen your DAW and perform a full plugin rescan. This option is usually found in the DAW’s preferences or plugin manager section.
3. Double-check plugin format compatibility:
   Some DAWs only support certain plugin formats. For example:
   – Logic Pro uses AU (Audio Units)
   – Ableton Live, FL Studio, Cubase use VST/VST3
   – Pro Tools uses AAX
   Please ensure you’ve installed the correct format for your DAW during setup.

This message simply states that the Carbon Electra installer is an older installer which is not signed with the latest Apple certificate. Regardless, the Carbon Electra installer is completely safe and free of any malware. 

How to install it safely:

• Double‑click the downloaded Carbon Electra installer file.
• In the warning dialog click Done to dismiss.
• Open System Settings → Privacy & Security.
• In the “Security” pane you’ll see an Open Anyway button next to the blocked installer – click it.
• The installer will launch; follow the on‑screen prompts to finish the setup.

Be sure to reboot your computer after installation, as this is often necessary for the installed plugin to be registered with your DAW. After rebooting you should find Carbon Electra listed under the manufacturer Plugin Boutique.

Note that only the AU plugin version of Carbon Electra is available on Mac OS. The VST version is only available on Windows.

You can install Scaler 3 on multiple computers. Scaler 3’s license permits installation on up to five computers as long as you are the primary user and the installations are not used simultaneously. We will soon introduce the ability to deactivate and transfer your licenses online. Should you need more activations in the meantime please contact customer support by creating a ticket in your account.

For more specific details about your license, refer to the End User License Agreement (EULA) after running the Scaler 3 installer. If you need to install Scaler 3 on additional computers beyond the allowed limit, you may need to purchase additional licenses.

You will only need to be online only for your first activation. Scaler 3 does not require an ongoing online connection.

First, export your chord set(s) from Scaler 2 using Save Individual Pattern(s) as Chord Sets. You can locate where Scaler 2 saves these files by clicking User > Open Folder – this will help when it’s time to import them into Scaler 3.

In Scaler 3, you can import a single chord set or an entire folder of sets:

1. Go to the User category in the left panel of Section A.
2. With the User category selected, click Import Chord Sets.
3. In the file dialog that appears, navigate to a .xml file to import a single chord set, or select a folder containing multiple chord sets.
4. Click Open (or double-click the file or folder) to complete the import.

The is a common one. Most likely you still have ‘Bind’ activated in Scaler 3 so you are effectively performing a performance. If you are dragging MIDI to your DAW please turn off ‘Bind’ in Scaler 3. The other likely reason is you have recorded trigger notes in your DAW and your DAW Sync active so you are triggering the child clips via MIDI and the internal Scaler 3 sequencer at the same time. You can resolve this by right clicking the play button and turning DAW Sync OFF. You can also do this in the Setting Menu.

Sure thing. Just click on the lock to the right of the Chord Set in Section A which will force into  current scale. Browsing through chord sets will then retain your selected key and scale/mode.

A virtual instrument version usable on instrument tracks. It is able to detect from audio and
MIDI but also to load internal instruments and control an external instrument using MIDI routing.

ScalerAudio3

An audio effect version built for simplifying the analysis of audio content from audio tracks.
Use this version if you wish to detect audio content by playing audio directly on the audio
track Scaler 3 is located on.
*If you want to hear the chords in Logic Pro whilst Scaler Audio is loaded on an audio channel, please arm your channel by pressing ‘I’ for Input Monitoring.

ScalerControl3

A version specifically built for DAWs supporting AU MIDI Controlled Effect plugins. It
contains the same detection features and exclusive content as Scaler 3.
Use this version if your DAW is only compatible with AU plugins, like Logic Pro, and you
wish to control an external instrument loaded in your DAWs plugin slot directly from Scaler 3.

A MIDI effect does not have the ability to output sound so you won’t be able to use Scaler
internal sounds and need to load another instrument on the same track.

You are free to use all of the musical content, chords, presets, melodies, basslines, sound libraries in your own compositions. Please run the installer of your Scaler Music product to read the full EULA. Here’s the important part.

You are permitted to use presets or parts of sound libraries that form part of the Software in the context of musical arrangements, recordings of arrangements and live performances but not: extract, copy or produce from the Software any single preset, sound or MIDI files or any assembly of presets, sound or MIDI files for resale, commercialisation or any other form of distribution or create derivatives of any presets, sound or MIDI files from the Software.

No. Scaler 3 for iPad is a separate product from Scaler 3 for desktop and is available exclusively via the iPad App Store. Each version must be purchased separately.

Yes. After saving or loading a user preset on Scaler 3 for iPad, you can export the preset by clicking the export button in the top right of Scaler 3’s interface, and selecting ‘Export User Preset’. Then you can manually import the preset file into Scaler 3’s preset folder on Windows or macOS.

Scaler EQ’s harmonic peaks (multiple filters) perform the same as any other minimum phase EQ. There’s nothing inherently wrong with phase shift from using an EQ in this way and is not discernible to the human ear. It’s a mathematical reality. Phase shift becomes important when trying to combine two correlated signals with unmatched phase response such as mixing a multi mic set up (such as one on a drum kit) using mics placed at different distances to the source.

Minimum phase EQ’s high cuts and high cut sweeps can cause phase shifting. Shelves, bells and harmonic peaks perform similarly to Linear Phase.

At times you may hear a ringing effect (like when you hit stop on your DAW). This is not related to phase; rather it’s post filter decay when notching using multiple simultaneous filters, particularly in the low end. It happens on all EQs irrespective of phase settings. We have a ‘smart mode’ in settings to minimise this at the expense of filter accuracy so we have it set to ‘off’ as the default.

In making an EQ we decided for a minimum phase, zero latency EQ as transient smearing and pre ringing from Linear Phase EQ’s is an issue in the vast majority of use cases. Linear Phase may come in the future but it comes at a heavy CPU cost. Multi tracking a multi mic drum kit is an example where Linear Phase may be preferable, but it is a minority use case in our opinion. Dan Worall’s (from FabFilter) excellent explanation of Minimum Phase v Linear Phase is a must watch (see below). Finally Scaler EQ incorporates Patent Pending technology and is a minimum phase, zero latency EQ. We have run extensive tests in Plugin Doctor and Bertom Audio’s EQ Curve Analyzer and it responds identically to the industry leading EQs.
